Sometimes you just need a hot bowl of chicken noodle soup. Big shredded chunks of chicken, half moons of bright orange carrots, crescents of celery, flecks of parsley and plenty of firm, not mushy, noodles, all swimming, no bathing, in a golden yellow, slightly shimmery, oh so aromatic (just a hint of lemon) broth.
The first spoonful warms my mouth, my being, my soul as it slips ever so warmly into my waiting belly. Headaches, stuffy noses, jittery nerves are no match for a perfectly savory and perfectly delicious bowl of chicken noodle soup.
Maybe a pair of Italian grissini breadsticks or even a few squares of Saltine crackers will accompany this down home, delicious dinner but even on it’s own, the power of a perfectly timed bowl of chicken noodle soup can make even the craziest of days, the busiest of weeks, the crankiest of kids (and parents) slow down and say “Ahhhhh.”
